What should I ask my insurance Provider regarding my coverage?

Please inquire with your insurance provider about the availability of out-of-network (OON) benefits, any deductibles, and how reimbursement requests are submitted. You also want to ask how many sessions does your ONN benefits cover and what the reimbursement rate is for sessions with OON provider. Also, find out if your insurance plan requires approval from your primary care physician before seeking therapy.

What is the difference in using my insurance versus self or private pay?

When using your private insurance plan, your insurance provider has access to your diagnosis, treatment plan, and session notes. This gives them more access to private health information about you, ultimately decreasing privacy and confidentiality . Also, many people engage in therapy to discuss major life stressors, transitions, and other reasons that do not require a mental health diagnosis. When using your private insurance, it is required that you receive a diagnosis to justify their payment for services provided.

What are the benefits related to teletherapy?

Utilizing teletherapy is a convenient way of bringing services to you in the comfort of your home, office, or car, allowing more flexibility that works with your schedule and lifestyle. Teletherapy allows you to save time and money on your commute, decreases the need to take time off from work or other important ventures. It also is a convenient way for people with medical and mobility issues to receive access to therapy and other mental health services.

Are there reduced or sliding scale rates available for sessions?

My sliding scale rate is $95 per session.

Can I use the same therapist for individual and family therapy sessions?

Although there is no official law that prohibits using the same therapist for individual and family sessions, ethically it is not appropriate. Using the same therapist for individual and family therapy runs the risk of being biased with a family member during family sessions, because one member has a dual relationship with the therapist. There are times during individual sessions, when a partner or other family member may join an individual session, but only to specifically address issues related to the individual engaged in therapy. Also, there are times during family therapy treatment where the therapist has individual session with various family members, with sessions being specifically related to family presenting issues.

How soon can i begin receiving supervision?

Individual supervision can begin as soon as possible. You would just schedule a time on my calendar for a 1-hour individual supervision session, regardless of which state you are seeking supervision for. Shared Individual (Georgia only) will begin at the beginning of the following month once 2 supervisees enroll for supervision. Group Supervision Sessions for both states will also begin at the beginning of the following month once a minimum of 3 supervisees enroll for Georgia supervision, and a minimum of 2 supervisees for Ohio supervision.
